The last day in Alsace : Eguisheim & Kaysersberg

The last villages we chose to see from the Alsace region were Eguisheim and Kaysersberg, for the simple reason that they were only a few kilometers away from the hotel where we stayed. What can I say, simply beautiful places! like the rest of the localities I visited, these villages compete for their beauty and originality!

Remarkable for Eguisheim is the fact that in 1902 here was born the Pope Leo IX, of which the locals are very proud.

Ultimele satucuri pe care am ales sa le vedem din regiunea Alsacia au fost Eguisheim si Kaysersberg, am petrecut dupa amiaza aici din simplu motiv ca se aflau doar la citiva kilometri distanta de hotelul in care ne-am cazat. Ce pot sa zic, niste locuri pur si simplu superbe, ca si restul localitatilor pe care le-am vizitat, aceste satucuri se intrec prin frumusetea si originalitatea lor!

Remarcabil pentru Eguisheim este si faptul ca in anul 1902 aici s-a nascut Papa Leon al 9-lea, al carui mormint se gaseste in interiorul Bazilicii Sf. Petru din Roma.

Colmar, Capital of Alsace wines

The next town that we visited after Riquewihr was Colmar, Capital of Alsace wine. The city center, which has miraculously survived the vagaries of history, is a veritable mosaic of half - timbered houses, multi colored facades, statues, finely crafted shop signs, impressive churches, canals and fountains. An interesting fact about Colmar it is that the creator of the famous New York Statue of Liberty - Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, was born here and is also a Museum dedicated to him. Alsace road trip: Riquewihr, Colmar, Kaysersberg and Eguisheim

I am passionate about Medieval History - Gothic cathedrals, medieval castles, old buildings and cobbleston streets are Europe's most important heritage! I started searching on Google Maps for destinations dating from the Middle Ages, where we were going to stop for just a few days during our road trip by car from UK to Italy. That's how I came to choose the Alsace region. An unexpectedly beautiful region, about which I must admit I didn't know too much, except that throughout history was a component part of France and Germany. We chose a very cute hotel in the medieval town of Riquewhir, located in the center of the Alsace and was a perfect place to stay and visit the region. Stonehenge and Old Harry Rocks

Because I'm passionate about history, one of the places we chose to visit in UK was Stonehenge, perhaps the world’s most famous prehistoric monument, built about 5,000 years ago and regarded as a British cultural icon.
